IT'S WORLD CLEANUP DAY!
Today it's WORLD CLEAN UP DAY and everyone should join in and do their bit for the planet aka your home.
I mean let's face it ... What is so hard about setting yourself a goal to pick up 10 pieces of rubbish? Absolutely zilch! It's so simple. The rubbish you collect doesn't have to be on the beach, it can be on the street, outside a store or a cafe, floating around a park ... it can be anywhere! The important thing is that by the end of the day it'll be relocated to the trash can. All thanks to you, your hands, your head & your heart.
A good little collection of facts to get you thinking! It’s not just old wrappers & bottles we have to think about - it’s clothes, cooking equipment, old bikes & sporting equipment, toys, tools, electronics. Waste comes from EVERYWHERE!
Getting back to WCUD, if everyone goes out today & collects 10 bits of track (or even better, if everyone aims to collect 20 or 30 pieces of rubbish or just every piece they see all day!), can you imagine the impact we can achieve in just one single day?! Let me paint you a picture ... we can achieve a A GINORMOUS IMPACT! One to be proud of & one to motivate us to keep on doing every single day - because we really shouldn't have to be reminded anymore. We should actually want to clean up our world because it's the only one we'll ever have.
Last year, World Clean Up Day united 18 million people across 157 countries and territories for the biggest waste collection day in human history. The world famous day began 11 years ago & is now hosted by an organisation called "Let's Do It World" (LDIW). The team at LDIW are looking out for the greater good & the future generations - they're real life heroes. As well as the future, LDIT are also looking out for the current generations who are suffering now in their everyday lives due to the amount of waste they're living amongst. It's dirty, unhygienic, dangerous & unsustainable. Maybe not in your neighbourhood - but trust me. There are places around the world where your heart would break if you saw the filth the local communities had to endure. It's simply not good enough.

Landfills are becoming more dire. Oceans are being weighed down with plastics. And the earth is simply suffering to take a clean breath of air. If we don't do something about this issue very soon - the beauty of Australia will not be guaranteed. Our amazing blue waters will be ruined by waste, oils & other contaminates. Our thriving soils will erode & breakdown with foreign factors and chemicals. The animal species will become harmed or critically ill, losing their natural habitats ... and there will only be one thing to blame. Our inability to do more now.
There are some incredible organisations such as Take 3 For The Sea working tirelessly to spread the world about cleaning up our oceans & thinking twice when it comes to everyday activities, choices & purchases. From the bottom of my heart, please do your best to support this incredible activation. Support your home, care for planet earth and spread the message far & wide. Post something on social media reminding your friends & family to take part in WORLD CLEAN UP DAY and nominate their buddies to do the same.
I'll leave you with this ... around 20 million tonnes of waste & rubbish each year makes it's way to a collection of landfill sites, spread around our Australian capital cities. These enormous piles of trash, most of which are made up of non-biodegradable contents, will pollute our country, our future & limit the space we have to evolve & grow. Do you want your backyard to be a big old tip? I certainly do not.
Do your best today. Be the bigger person. If you want to know how else you can help this bigger issue, use your social media platforms & your own personal networks to do the following. When people see the stats and facts - they stop & they think twice! This is the first, best step.
Reveal how much plastics goes into markets and environments this year;
Reduce the amount of plastic produced and packaged
Reinvent how goods are packaged and delivered.
