ELLE

We don't think it's controversial to say that racing horse names can get fairly ridiculous. Not modelled after the catchiness of pet names, or the predictability of human names, they tend to lean the way of obscure words (Bletchingly, Saintly, Octagonal), blithe admonishments (Better Loosen Up, Why The Long Face, Stand And Cheer), and regal titles (A Prince of Arran, Sir Charles Road, Red Cardinal).

All in all, not exactly roll-off-the-tongue territory.

The attendees at the 2018 Melbourne Cup know that all too well.

Ahead of the race that stops the nation, we caught up with a few favourites inside the ELLE Lounge at the Birdcage to quiz them on their horse knowledge with "Track or Tracks?".

Asking the likes of Lindy Rama-Ellis, Sam Wines and Sarah Czarnuch from the Pace Penthouse; Lara Worthington, over from Bumble; Nathalie Kelley and Jordan Burrows via Mumm; Myer ambassadors Elyse Knowles and Josh Gibson; and Nerida Winter from the Kennedy marquee, we challenged them to guess whether the titles were horse names or song titles.

Hit play on the video above to see who got it right and who was just horsing around.
