The Block Is Back! POPSUAGR recaps Season Premier!!
The Block is back, and because we're loyal Blockheads (and can't wait to see these new properties) we are covering the season premier as it happens. Settle in and get ready for some good old fashioned reno reality TV drama.
7:01 p.m. Five new couples, new location . . . Woah! They moved old houses onto a new block of land. That's nuts!
7:02 p.m. Scott Cam is so excited about these homes he's found. "The windows! The shingles! That triple gable!" Cute.
7:03 p.m. OK, first couple intro. Hannah and Clint. They're married, he's ex-footballer and she's a flight attendant. Zero reno experience. Hmmm. This will be a whole new world for them then.
7:05 p.m. Sticks and Wombat. Besties, lots of experience, but they're already concerned that theses houses are roofless. Don't worry guys, Scotty will fix it for you. Meet Josh and Elyse — young, fit, in love (friends of POPSUGAR). So cute. Josh is a chippy (bonus) and Elyse is a model, but they both put in the effort to renovate their own home. LOL, and Wombat just called them the ugliest couple ever to grace The Block.
7:08 p.m. Georgia and Ronnie. They seem hilarious. Married, three cute kids, no filter.
7:09 p.m. Sarah and Jason, the "oldies" who've been married more than 20 years. Oh apparently he's really tall! Hahha. Oh wow, he is really tall!
7:11 p.m. Time to explore the houses. There's water in the light fitting, and the places look pretty derelict, but we're so with Hannah on the pink bathroom. That can stay.
7:12 p.m. Back stories. Goodie. Jason and Sarah have spent the last 10 years in a permanently unfinished house. They haven't had the time, money or energy to get it finished and Jason suffered and injury. He was in bed for 6 months! Wow. Battlers. But they never give up.
7:13 p.m. Georgia and Ronnie are reno pros! Ten properties under their belts. Swish.
7:14 p.m. Elyse and Josh found a safe. But no other big reveals on that.
7:15 p.m. Wombat lives in a shipping container! Off-grid. No energy. No plumbing. He wants to go on The Block to learn how to finish his shipping container. Very cool. Hannah and Clint have no experience, but they're big fans. Can't hurt to know the game!
7:17 p.m.Everyone just opened the back doors and realised the land is HUGE! Biggest Block ever. We're excited.
7:19 p.m. OK, Scott just filled in the viewers. Each renovation is includes: a three-bedroom house and two-storey extension, backyard, three-car garage and a studio apartment on top of that. Wow.
7:21 p.m. To work out who gets what house (cause they can't just draw straws), each couple has to renovate a bedroom in 48 hours. That will determine the picking order. It looks like the sun is setting, but they're about to get started.
7:26 p.m. Interesting. Jason and Sarah's tactic is to save the money and go low-key with this room renovation while Georgia and Ronnie are thinking the total opposite: go all out because it's the most important challenge.
7:30 p.m. Is it weird that I'd really like to be at one of Cam's BBQs? OK, budget. $250,000 per couple to spend on the house in addition to vouchers. They can spend as much as they like on this room. Dangerous. Do you spend a lot on a room that might not stay in your house? House number three has the safe. But Cam isn't telling them what's in it.
7:33 p.m. Doesn't look like they slept that well. But it hasn't dampened their spirits. What? "Surprise sixth couple"?! Oh it's Keith and Dan. Hi guys. They told Elyse and Josh no working until 7 a.m. Then they told Ronnie and Georgia to be tidier. LOL.
7:37 p.m.Time to pick their builders (this is always a spot of tension on The Block). Josh is a builder and is calling in a mate. Smart (or is it?!). Oh, Matt! He's ex-Block as well.
7:41 p.m. Sarah and Jason have changed their mind and are going all out. Woah! Look at Casa del Sticks! Recycled timbre, lots of outdoor living, that looks nice. Sticks and Wombat are making a bed head out of railway sleepers similar to Casa del Sticks. Clever.
7:43 p.m. Ronnie and Georgia are both going shopping. Cam's telling them "no way". Adding to Ronnie he doesn't like his shirt, haha. Oh and they do a lot of "back and forthing" while shopping. It looks a lot like arguing.
7:47 p.m. Hannah is FUNNY. She's cracking up over the paint names and dancing around Mitre 10. Go girl! But her wardrobe guy has just quit. He couldn't hack it. WHat a buzz kill.
7:50 p.m. Elyse is in Freedom and she seems not the best at making decisions — we know the feeling. Josh is telling her to make the call, oh and he's decided to go with floorboards.
7:53 p.m. Ronnie isn't super happy to hear there's someone else doing floorboards, they thought that was "their thing". Oh but he doesn't know how to do it properly. Eeek! No dust bag! And he's broken the machine. Not good. He goes with plan b: carpet. Georgia is not happy.
8:02 p.m. Ten minutes of arguing (though Georgia just calls it talking) and Ronnie and Georgia are laying carpet.
8:03 p.m.Most of the Blockheads are trying to keep the bedroom costs under $10k. Jason and Sarah thought they could only spent $5k. Then they saw what other people were doing and are now trying to add something special with a stand-out art work. She's found one for $3,600. She's got a bit of a discount . . . but still. That's a chunk out of the budget. Cam is out to see the reaction (expecting explosions), but Jason trusts her. Cute.
8:07 p.m. Clint is thrilled with his own handy work. "I've painted the kid's bedrooms, now I'm painting The Block!" You've got to love it when a fan gets on the show.
8:10 p.m. Sticks is also a photographer! Go Sticks! Oh and his wife is pregnant with kid number two! Expecting her to give birth while they're filming, that will be exciting.
8:20 p.m. Power tools down and it's time to paint. Can you imagine painting all night? No thanks. Oh no. Jason and Sarah are out of paint, and on that note, it's a wrap. Room reveals tomorrow night! Can't wait. FULL article here.
